The Promise Zone: Our work in under-resourced communities continues to make an impact in the San Diego Promise Zone, one of 22 federally designated Promise Zones across the country, which covers a 6.4 square mile area that spans East Village and Barrio Logan east to Encanto and is home to more than 80,000 residents.
Financial Wellness Center:
Cal Coast Credit Union opened the first Financial Wellness Center in the San Diego Promise Zone located in
Logan Heights Community Development Corporation (LHCDC). The first of its kind in the San Diego Promise Zone.
Financial Empowerment Internship Program: A program created in partnership with Logan Heights CDC and an AHEAD Grant. We’ve provided 19 youth with financial education and outreach training to create awareness about the Cal Coast Financial Wellness Center benefiting the Promise Zone community.
Promise Zone Grants: In 2023, we made a significant impact by awarding eight grants to local nonprofits dedicated to serving the Promise Zone. These grants empower this community by addressing critical needs and fostering long-term development. Our grants support several key areas, including financial literacy, food insecurities, and housing.
Summer Intern Program: In 2023 we hosted nine interns in support of helping students apply class- room knowledge in a real-world setting and furthering their higher education experience.
Financial Wellness & Education:
Hosted 108 financial eduction events from workshops and webinars to FinSense (our exclusive financial education app) and Bite of Reality interactive events. Plus, held 844 free 1:1 financial coaching sessions.
