What we say... about weekends
Sometimes we just need to leave home for a while.
With family or friends or alone, it’s good to stretch our legs and exercise our minds in new places. We go to a funfair, on a cruise, to the mountains or seashore or a national park or to another city. We stay with friends or in hotels or AirBnB rooms, tents, or motor homes. We all have our favorite destinations. Here are a few weekend getaways in Latin America and Japan.
Cottage in Colombia
We rented a cottage in tierra caliente for the long weekend.
Japanese:
Renkyu wo sugosu tame, atatakai tochi no besso wo yoyaku shimashita.
Note: Bogotá’s high elevation (8,600 feet) means that it has a cool climate, and anywhere at a lower altitude can be tierra caliente (“hot lands”) — warmer tropical destinations only a few hours away by car. Puente (“bridge”) refers to a long weekend.
Mexico City, Mexico:
Whenever possible, people in Mexico City escape the stress of the metropolis to spend a great weekend in Cuernavaca, Puebla, Queretaro, San Miguel de Al- lende, or some of the dozens of other beautiful places nearby.
Japanese:
Mekishiko shiti- no hito wa shumatsu niwa tokai no kenso wo hanarete, kyueruna- baka, puebura, keretaro, san migeru de arende nado, kinko no utsukushii basho ni ashiwo hakobimasu.
