Crossroads
Real transformation
Talking with Sugu Mike, Regional Executive for the Americas, and Steve Cummings, U.S. CEO
Sugu Mike
No stranger to our shores, Kanetsugu Mike assumed the post of REA understanding the culture here and our business opportunities and challenges. Previous positions include General Manager of Corporate Planning for the Americas. He is also Deputy CEO of the Global Business Unit and was closely involved in the acquisition of Krungsri, our Thai sister bank.
In the ten-plus years since you were last in the Americas, what has changed?
Sugu: There has been real transformation. One aspect is the talent represented at the executive level. For example, before, 80 percent of the faces at managers’ meetings were Japanese expats. BTMU in the Americas was a Japanese bank run by expats. Now we are well on the way to becoming a global bank. We have a more diverse management team. Our customer portfolio has expanded and our businesses have grown dramatically. Our profile in the market is far above what it was a decade ago. All this is evidence of steady progress.
